Introduction:

Project Scope & Focus

  • Borrowing from lean (flow thinking) school to develop solutions for carbon reduction. Some work has already been carried out to adapt value stream mapping and other lean waste elimination tools for sustainability, such as EPA reports in US.
  • Exploring the role of Six Sigma approach and cutting edge quality concepts in delivering carbon reduction (e.g. Taguchi concepts, Six Sigma way of thinking about measurement, etc.)
  • LERC sees great compatibility between lean and green in that lean is about ‘tomorrow better than today’ and carbon reduction can be delivered through same continuous improvement approaches.
  • Environmental sustainability will be studied solely from climate change perspective.
