Training Within Industry – TWI – is often referred to as the forerunner of contemporary lean thinking and was developed in the US to support the World War Two war effort. The TWI programme focused on the development of three key managerial skills, considered necessary for leaders and workers and it is increasing being used and adapted to meet today's leadership challenges.
