It is argued that it is only when an entire supply chain is transformed along lean lines that significant, system wide benefits arise. This theme examines the task of mobilising and coordinating people, processes, partners and technologies to dramatically improve supply chain performance.

Accelerate Wales – Supply Chain Champions Programme

Accelerate Wales was an initiative developed in consultation with the Welsh Automotive Forum, focusing on the improvement of the performance of the automotive supply chain. LERC developed a training programme for the participants or ‘champions’.

LEARN Network Programme (2)

Building from the success of LEARN 1, LEARN2 was established to bring together sponsors from a diverse range of manufacturing sectors to ‘learn’ about lean manufacturing, by implementing lean systems within their own facilities and using their own employees (guided by LERC mentors and researchers).

EPSRC Innovative Manufacturing Research Centre

The Cardiff University EPSRC Innovative Manufacturing Research Centre (IMRC) was established in 2004 - an amalgamation of three of the university’s leading manufacturing and operations research groups – LERC, Logistics System Dynamics Group and the Manufacturing Engineering Centre.

Supply Chain Development Programmes

The Supply Chain Development Programmes (SCDP) investigated both the internal value steam and wider supply chain management practices and resulted in improvements to the network members in terms of operational changes and also the development of methodologies drawn from research with other members.
